We are a new company with limited resources, where do we start with
marketing our organization?
Marketing is a subject that is very important to AGB. All marketing starts with a strong understanding of
your product/service, your customers need for the product/service and understanding what makes your
product/service unique to the customer. Developing a written marketing plan is ideal to address these
areas. Many have this plan and are ready to get the word out and the first step is to develop a visual
image for your organization with a creative logo, followed by using this logo to create the basics of
business: Business Cards, Stationary, Email stationary. Included in this should be a tagline of some
kind to explain what you do. Once this is completed the next steps to market your organizations is to
use the logo and corporate identity and design these into other important communications pieces.
AGB is here to help you develop a complete marketing plan or any elements you may need to get your
organization pointed in the right direction.
How important is a website to my organization?
When you look back at the history of communications some things at the time were very critical to a
businesses success. Western Union used the telegraph - it is gone today …the pony express and mail
delivery were very important - this has faded, the fax in the 70’s was very important - it is also beginning
to fade away. Today, the internet is how business gets done.
In 2009. 90 trillion emails were sent out with 1.4 billion email users world wide. There are 234 million web
sites with last year 81.8 million .com names being registered. The internet is an important business
communications tool. There are currently 1.73 billion internet users. This means more and more people
are using search engines to find information about products or services. More and more people rely on
the internet to look up phone numbers, directions, and to learn about businesses and products before they
buy. Having a website with the important key information about your company and its products and services
are critical to your success. AGB can help you develop your web presence and use the internet to gain new business.
Why choose an outside firm to develop my marketing and communications
materials?
While bigger companies can afford full time people to help develop their materials smaller companies are
not that fortunate. The complicated nature of the communications business is that it is made up of a wide
variety of services that need to be created by a number of different areas of expertise. An agency offers
a variety of people with expertise in a variety of areas. Some projects require a creative person to develop
an idea for a campaign, another to write copy and a designer to bring this together. Another project might
require an analysis of a marketing problem and finding the best way to reposition a product to a new audience.
Introducing a new product without a big budget might require a public relations specialist to get the word out
using free publicity. Yet another project needs help with programing a website and getting it designed and
launched on the world wide web. All of these specialities are things we do on a daily basis at AGB.
Can I use images from the Internet for my project?
In most instances, no. You should always assume any images you come across on the internet are
copyrighted, unless stated otherwise underneath the image or on the website. Some websites allow you
to use their images for non-commercial or educational purposes only, but you should research the guidelines
for use of images from each individual site you come across. Also, remember, images on the internet are
compressed and optimized and they are too low of quality to be used in any print media. Generally images
on the internet are compressed to 72 dpi (dots per inch) and the necessary quality for print use is
300 dpi (dots per inch).
What is CMYK?
CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. CMYK is a color mode used when preparing an image
to be printed using printing press colors. Other modes used in images are RGB (red, green, and blue) and
Grayscale (black, white and gray tones).
